THE DICHOTOMIZED GOD - Intro 1
THE DICHOTOMIZED GOD - Intro 1
1. THE ORIGINAL SIN: THE ROOT OF HUMAN THOUGHT DISTORTION
(Genesis 3:1-7 – Existential Analysis)
Not Just a Violation, But a Revolution of Consciousness
The event of the Fall in Eden was not merely a violation of a rule (eating the forbidden fruit), but a total overhaul of how humanity perceives reality. Like a virus infecting an operating system, sin corrupts:
1. The Way of Viewing God:
Before Sin: God was understood as a good Father (Genesis 2:16-17 – a loving warning).
After Sin: God was seen as a frightening Overseer (Genesis 3:10 – "I was afraid because I was naked").
2. The Way of Viewing Self:
Before: Humans were aware of being the glorious image of God (Genesis 1:27).
After: Humans felt lacking and ashamed (Genesis 3:7 – covering themselves with fig leaves).
Two Main Distortions After the Fall
1. From Relationship to Transaction
Before:
Direct and intimate communication ("the LORD God walking in the garden" – Genesis 3:8a).
Obedience flowed naturally, like a child obeying a beloved father.
After:
The relationship became mechanistic:
Adam hides (Genesis 3:10) → God is perceived as a threat.
Cain offers a sacrifice (Genesis 4:3) → tries to "pay" for God's acceptance.
2. From Organic Obedience to Legalism/Rebellion
The Mechanism of Mind Poisoning
Sin works like spiritual malware that:
1. Replaces Humanity's "Operating System":
From theo-centric (God-centered) to ego-centric (Genesis 3:5 – "you will be like God").
2. Infects Language:
The serpent twists God's word (Genesis 3:1 vs. 2:16-17).
Humanity begins to speak in the code of rationalizing sin ("The woman you gave me...") – Genesis 3:12.
Restoration Begins with Awareness
First Step: Acknowledging that we are infected (Psalm 51:5 – "Surely I was sinful at birth").
Examples:
The Psalmist (Psalm 139:23-24) – "Search me, O God".
Peter (Luke 5:8) – "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man".
Challenge:
Religious systems often offer a quick fix (ritual without transformation).
True restoration requires the dismantling of the old way of thinking (Romans 12:2).
---
Reflection Questions:
1. Do I more often see God as a "Punishing Judge" or a "Loving Father"?
2. In daily life, is my faith closer to legalism ("I must be perfect") or antinomianism ("God will surely forgive")?
> "The biggest problem with sin is not the violation of rules, but the corruption in how we know and respond to God."
> — Adapted from Augustine, Confessions

Restoration is made possible through Christ—the New Adam who restores our way of thinking (1 Corinthians 15:45-49). We will explore this in the next section...
