JESUS: THE MODEL OF A RESTORED MIND - REVERSING ADAM'S LEGACY


Christ as the New Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45)

Jesus came not only to redeem human sin but to restore the human thought pattern that had been distorted since the fall. In Him, we see:


1. A Whole Relationship with the Father

   - "I can do nothing by myself... I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me" (John 5:19,30)

   - Contrast with Adam:

     - Adam chose independence ("you will be like God" - Gen 3:5)

     - Christ chose total dependence


2. Obedience that Flows Naturally

   - His obedience was not a burden, but an expression of love (John 14:31)

   - Analogy: Like a child who gladly obeys a beloved parent


The Mechanism of Restoration Offered by Jesus


A. Sanctifying Grace



B. A Restored Mindset

1. Mindset of Connectedness

   - "I am in the Father and the Father is in me" (John 14:10)

   - Implication: We are invited to live in the same unity (John 17:21)


2. Mindset of Service

   - "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve" (Mark 10:45)

   - Reverses the post-fall mentality of "wanting to be served"




Practices for Restoring the Mind in Christ

1. Learning to Live in Dependence

   - Jesus' prayer in Gethsemane (Matthew 26:39) shows a human struggle submitted to the Father's will


2. Internalizing Scripture

   - Jesus quoted Scripture when tempted (Matthew 4) → A model for mental defense


3. Transformational Community

   - The formation of disciples who changed their mindset (Acts 4:13)


Warning:

- This restoration is not instant but a lifelong process (Philippians 3:12)

- Requires spiritual discipline (1 Corinthians 9:27) and community (Hebrews 10:24-25)


> "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus"

> (Philippians 2:5)

1. Which aspect of Christ's mindset is the most difficult for me to apply?

2. Do I more often try to be spiritually "independent" or learn to depend like Jesus?
